Hi all,
Which combination of singing, musicianship, and other factors would you select as THE song that best describes The Cottars?

I chose "Pat Works on the Railway" because they are all involved and it seems to be a crowd favorite. "Hold On" is a good one too, now that I think of it.

I also picked pat, because they all sing and play, and is more a root song, where as a song like waterlily starts getting more contemporary.

I had to think for a minute whether I wanted to choose Captain Campbell or Pat. In Captain Campbell you can hear each individual instrument quite clearly. However, Pat shows off instrumentation and singing, and their musical skills are more professional sounding in Pat, so I chose it...plus, it's one of my favourites
Cheers, Ginny

"Home By Bearna", because it's traditional, yet has a contemporary musical arraingment.

It took me a long time to choose favorites since I had to listen to them all again. I picked a favorite from each album, though my vote went for The Captain Campbell Medley (Made in Cape Breton). However, I love The Guitar Jigs (On Fire) because it really shows the musicianship of all the Cottars and their enthusiasm for their music. Finally, from Forerunner, I chose Waterlily. (Is that Roseanne singing with Fiona?) Notwithstanding these choices, I still get tingles listening to Fiona singing The Briar and The Rose. Unfortunately, their sound won't be heard again and we can only wait to hear the "New" Cottars on disc - if it ever comes out.

Great post, Garth! Yes, that is Roseanne singing harmony to Fiona's lead.
I'm sure that the economic troubles are playing a part in the delay of the new album.
Best wishes, Joe
