Did anyone happen to watch the opening ceremonies for the Olympics tonight? One of the fiddlers featured in the fiddle fall act looked a LOT like Rosie MacKenzie...but maybe I was just imagining things. I can't find any websites that mention her performing at the ceremonies, but still, it was a rather uncanny resemblance . The whole ceremony was amazing! Cheers, Ginny

Hi Ginny,
I didn't take notice of anyone looking like Rosie...probably CTV had better coverage than NBC.
That was a great part of the opening ceremonies...wow...did you see some of the performers' bows? I think that one guy on the top platform had a only a few bowstrings left!
The participation of the First Nations people was so wonderful! Great to see Anne Murray help to carry the Olympic flag into the stadium. How about that girl that sang 'O Canada'? Her name is Nikki Yanofksy (who just turned 16 last week). Amazing!
Of course, in the back of everyone's mind was the tragic death of Nodar Kumaritashvili, a luger from the Georgia Republic.
Anyone have an opinion on who will be in the hockey gold medal game? ;D
Joe

I'm sure you would have seen her, when all of the individual fiddlers were coming out one after the other, it was the last female fiddler I believe. Mind you, it looked like a more mature Rosie, but she does look quite a bit older now (remember I saw her live a few months ago). Anyway, if I happen to see a picture or video of it online, then I'll post it . Yeah the whole opening was amazing. My favourite performers were Sarah McLachlan and KD Lang. I haven't actually watched any of the actual games yet...maybe today. Cheers, Ginny

It definitely was Ashley, as he was announced. It was a great performance Yep, it's in today's edition of the Cape Breton Post.. Ashley MacIsaac surprised mom with performance at Olympic opening ceremonies PORT HAWKESBURY— Ashley MacIsaac’s kilt-clad, foot-stomping performance during the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games was so top secret that even his mother didn’t know about it.
Carmelita MacIsaac, who lives in Port Hawkesbury, said her son couldn’t tell anyone about his historic gig seen by billions of people worldwide on Friday.
As someone who regularly watches Olympic opening ceremonies, MacIsaac said her son knew she’d be glued to the television set and offered no hint of his involvement.
According to Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium, the live coverage of Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony was the most-watched television event ever in Canadian history. On average, 13.3 million Canadians watched the 3 1/2-hour ceremony.
“I’ll take that to the grave with me because that was an amazing, amazing thing for us to see, our son on the Olympics,” MacIsaac said. ---- Read the entire article by clicking... www.capebretonpost.com/index.cfm?sid=326838&sc=145Well done Ashley! Representin' C.B. in B.C. !

Did anyone watch the Women's Bobsleigh tonight? The gold and silver winners were both from Canada, and bronze from the US! Heather Moyse, from the first place team is from PEI, so all Islanders are very excited right now . It was an intense competition, with a few accidents. It was a great competition to watch though! Cheers, Ginny

I haven't watched much Olympics, but I do know that all the Chicago Blackhawk hockey players represented in the Olympics are STILL playing (US, Canada, and Slovokia). I just hope none of the players get hurt!

Hi Ginny, No, I didn't watch the women's bobsleigh the other night. A fantastic result for Canada! I did watch the women's hockey gold medal game though! Hello Mott, Speaking of gold medal hockey there are lot of familiar NHLers competing...any predictions for the final? Best wishes, Joe

Congrats to Canada, they were the better team I thought and deserved to win. I was happy the kid got the winning goal for them. I was proud of the Hawks players though, especially Patrick Kane for the US (he had 2 assists). He adds a little more muscle and he will be a top star in the NHL. Toews was great too.
