Hi all,
Let's have some fun with a poll question. The Cottars have really grown musically over the last six years. Time to find out which album is the most popular among our members!

Hey Joe,
Wow, it was hard because I wish I could have voted for all of them. I just thought that On Fire was a much better rounded recording. It has virtuosity, slow beautiful sections, as well as an a cappella piece. It displays the strengths of the Cottars best.
God Bless, afanoffiona

Thanks to Joe for not closing the poll before I found it! Considering the current score is 0, 4, 0, I guess it doesn't take a lot to work out which one I voted for! So much for the secret ballot! LOL My preference for 'On Fire' and my tendency towards pyromania is purely coincidental! I chose it because it was the first of the three that I heard and it impressed me enormously. For any subsequent album to impress me quite as much would take some doing. They are all good though. It's just that 'On Fire' is gooder! Roger

I had to buck the trend and go with "Made In Cape Breton" for sentimental reasons

OK I'm ready to vote on this. Sorry it took so long but I only got the "On Fire" CD a couple of weeks ago, and wanted to be fair and have all 3 CDs before voting. I voted for "On Fire" as my favorite. I do love "Made In Cape Breton", and I think "The Briar And The Rose" is one the greatest pieces of recorded music I've ever heard. "Forerunner" is not quite as good, but is still a wonderful CD featuring several fine tunes. But "On Fire" is great from beinginning to end; every cut is a gem. I love the fact that The Cottars are so diverse in their music. From O'Carolan to Dougie MacLean, from bouncy jigs to somber ballads, there seems to be something here for everyone. And it's all beautifully played and sung. Plus whoever arranged this music (Allister?) did a masterful job. I also like the liner notes on the CD. My knowledge of Canadian music begins and ends with Neil Young and Joni Mitchell and the like. But I get quite an education looking up people on the internet like Wade Hemsworth and Catherine McKinnon. But the deciding factor in voting for "On Fire", is the fact that they included a song written by my Chicago gal Liz Carroll! Seriously though, this CD is outstanding in so many ways, their choices of music, their versatility, and above all their talent. It's a must-have CD. Rich

I had to vote for "On Fire". It was the album for which I wrote a poem after Roseanne had told me what the title was going to be about 3 months before its release. Here's the poem:
THE COTTARS
Treasures from Cape Breton Island Heart and music intertwine; Energizing all around them, Captivating like fine wine. On the stage they weave their magic, Two young ladies, two young men; Thrilling all who hear them playing; Awe-inspiring is their ken. Raised to carry forth tradition; Stirring souls in every glen.
Blending music, song and dancing; Adding spark to age-old lore; New stars rising, new stars shining; Drawing from the Gaelic core. On the keyboards there is Ciarán; Nearby, Jimmy's hot guitar; Fiona sings with heartfelt joy, Inspired by Muses from afar; Roseanne fiddles, Roseanne dances. Each of them a rising star.

If you read down the first letter of each line you will see the acrostic message.

Wow, awesome poem there, very cool with the extra little message there. I had to change the trend as well by voting for forerunner, mostly because I have more favourite songs on that one then on the rest. Also i thought that that cd deserved at least one vote
