Not sure where this story should go, so I'll put it here. Conor Makem, son of Tommy Makem, formerly of the Makem and Spain Brothers, was sentenced yesterday to a year in jail for recording women in a bathroom of a building where he was formerly employed. I found out about this because last Sunday I went to see the Makem and Spain Brothers perform in an Irish festival in the Chicago area. Conor wasn't there and the other band members said nothing about his absence, so when I got home I Googled Conor. I found stories about this crime, and today found news of the sentencing. This to me is just beyond belief, as I have been a fan of the Makem Brothers (and later with the Spains) for many years. I would see them everytime they came to Chicago. And now it will be hard for me to listen to their music again, it will be tough to get over this. Thanks for sharing this story, Rich. It is indeed disturbing that Conor Makem was arrested for such lewd behavior. On the Wikipedia page for The Makem and Spain Brothers, it says "The police confiscated his American and Irish passports, which prevented him from participating in the band's annual musical tour of Ireland. Conor Makem was sentenced to a year incarceration at Strafford County House of Corrections in May 2014 after pleading guilty to 19 invasion of privacy charges. " en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Makem_BrothersI hope something good comes out of all this, and that Conor can redeem himself on stage again!
