Thanks Joe. I was wondering if on the US Thanksgiving (Nov. 23) if there was a Canadian holiday on that same day too?
But I only liked Columbus Day as a kid, beacuse we'd have no school. Today is still a work day unless you work for the government I guess.

I hate Columbus Day. I don't know why we honor him at all. I'm 1/2 Italian and I'll be the first to say the guy was a pig.
Sorry Joe - I just had to express that.

I do kind of agree, Columbus Day is kind of silly...it's not like America would never have been discovered if Columbus didn't accidentally bunp into it in 1492. How come there is no Magellan Day? I think discovering the world is round is pretty important.

^ lol Its true. There were definitely more important people than Columbus. I always wonder how its decided who gets their own day.

Yeah, Columbus wasn't even near America. It irks me that tens of thousand of our native people were there first. And then later convieniently "moved" aside.

Yeah, Columbus wasn't even near America. It irks me that tens of thousand of our native people were there first. And then later convieniently "moved" aside. In my neck of the woods it seems that most people don't even honor the day anymore - it still exists on the books but since the native americans made such a stink about it and people started paying attention, it just isn't what it was when I was little - which is good IMO. Italians like to hold onto Columbus day because its probably the only hero we Italian Americans have
