I just found out today that Brad Delp. who was the lead singer of the rock group Boston, killed himself last week. Apparently he sealed himself in his bathroom with two ignited charcoal grills, and died of the carbon monoxide poisoning. I really liked Boston so I was shocked to hear this. I bring this up because I have two questions. First, why did he kill himself? He certainly made lots of money, was engaged to be married later this year, and I believe was going to tour with Boston later this year too. What would he be so despondent about? But the second question for me is, why did he commit suicide the way he did? This must be the strangest suicide I have ever heard, him locking himself in a bathroom and breathing fumes from charcoal grills he put in there. He even had the decency to leave notes warning others of the fumes. In any event, I guess it shows money and fame isn't everything. It's sad but weird too.

That is a sad story.
I've never heard of him before, but it was still sad to hear about him anyway.
Even though it may have appeared that his life was great, it can be hard to tell when someone is depressed. There were probably things going on that fans had no idea about.

He may have had depression. One must understand that depression is a disease like cancer is a disease. Depression or any other mental illness will make people feel and do things or even not do things a healthy person wouldn't do. Often what people label as crazy is just because someone's brain is not functioning correctly. Some functions can be corrected and some cannot. When it comes to suicide, a depressed person doesn't think about anything but dying, they can't see anything but release from the pain they are suffering from. Some people when they have decided to do it feel a sort of euphoria that soon they will not be here, it's weird but that's how the brain deal with things. Don't look at it as selfish or not thiking about others (because in many ways the depressed person does thing about others), because it is a disease that makes you feel so helpless and worthless you think the whole world sees you that way even when they don't. So in the case of Delp he may have just felt this was his way, he wasn't thinking of warning others, he probably felt his family would be better off without him. He may have also felt he was a burden to his family and friends so if he died they wouldn't have to worry about him. Money, popularity etc have nothing to do with living a happy or even healthy life when one has depression. Depression does not discriminate between wealth or race or gender or anything.

Also he may have been on drugs. Though he also may not have been. That's just the "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" sterotype. First Kurt Cobain, and now him.

Hi all!
Although I haven't heard of Brad Delp either, his death and the method of it is sad. I agree with what everyone has said. Depresssion is very much a disease and can be treated.
Mott, has there been any further news regarding this suicide?

Joe, no new news on this except that his body was found by his fiance. That was probably rough for her I imagine. And I read that he left a suicide note saying "Mr. Brad Delp. J'ai une ame solitaire. I am a lonely soul."
From what I have gathered, Brad was a vegetarian and allegedly did not use drugs. But from what I have read, he seemed to be frustrated with the music business; perhaps he just couldn't get a grip with what he really wanted to accomplish in life.
It is interesting that some of you guys don't know who he was; perhaps that is part of it. Not that it's anyone's fault for not knowing him, but maybe he felt that time passed him by.

Hey Everyone!
I guess that proves that money, popularity, and women can't buy happiness. That is why, as much as I sometimes wonder if Fiona is even human because her voice is so beautiful, we have to keep in mind that she [and every other famous person we admire] is human just like us with needs just like us.
God Bless, afanoffiona
