Hi all,
I have a feeling on which song you like the best! ;D

Well instead of voting for you-know-what, I want to consider the other songs. But then I have a problem, because most of the other songs are wonderful too. I like "Sùilean Dubh" and "Captain Campbell" very much. "I Know Who Is Sick" is great and is the only song I've heard all five times I've seen the Cottars (so they must love it too). But I love the ballads too. "Balinderry" is a lovely sad tune that features great acoustic guitar playing. Allister's tune "Here's To Song" is very uplifting and features everyone (except I wish Fiona had sung the whole thing alone, or perhaps with Ciarán). And I love "Two Brothers", and the well-done contrast of sorrow to joy in the song. But I picked "Scarlet Ribbons". I guess I am impressed that this song was selected to be a part of their CD. It's a nice arrangement, very moving rendition I think, Ciarán and Roseanne play beautifully. Though the song loses it's meaning when sung as a duet, it sort of gains a different meaning; perhaps because of Fiona's young voice, she can play the daughter to John. In a way, with them alternating their singing parts, it makes the song more tender and poignant. So I'll vote for "Scarlet Ribbons", and save my accolades for you-know-what in another long post.

I have a feeling on which song you like the best! ;D um...uh....I feel rather stupid right now...I'm going to assume that you mean "The Briar and the Rose". Weirdly enough, that's never been one of my favourite Cottars songs. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the song..it's just not my favourite...I prefer the more upbeat, faster ones. Don't think I'm crazy or anything...all the times I've seen them perform it live, it's been great...but I probably wouldn't have considered voting for it. Cheers, Ginny

The first time I heard the song, I actually thought it was Ciaran! lol...back when I didn't know any better I agree...that would have been good Cheers, Ginny

Same with "Scarlet Ribbons"! I was wondering why his voice was so mature on those but not on "Two Brothers". But then I read someone talk about John signing, and I realized "oh yeah, THAT'S who's singing." ;D

is that how i quote?? sorry if its not. Its not Ciaran?? I know one of the verses is John McDermit, but isnt the other Ciaran? But I like that song, but my favourite besides that song, would have to be the coulin, especially the part played on the whistle by Ciaran.

Hello faerie. Yeah, you nearly got the quote correct. That post has been quoted a lot. Here's a trick... You got the clicking on the quote button right. But after that normally you'd see something like this for example... [ quote author=ginny board=vote thread=1159241555 post=1159469868] Oh Joe..you and your mind tricks Cheers, Ginny[/quote ] ----------> note...to show you this I added a space after the "[" and before the "]" . When you quote there won't be those spaces. Oh, on Scarlet Ribbons, that's John McDermott during the whole song! Cheers, Joe

It's never easy to pick a favourite track from any album. I eventually voted for 'Here's To Song' as it is such a perfect song with which to end an album and it somehow makes me want to play the whole thing again. It's easy, gentle melody is memorable and lifts the spirit while creating a mood of contentment and tranquility.

I would say Heres to Song. I like it because of the sense of family and community in it. How there is both the young voice and the older singing together.

Hey fiddler94! I agree with you on that one. That would probably be my second choice...I always wish they'd perform it live, but I've never heard it yet.
Cheers, Ginny

I agree, too Ginny. Of course, we can't forget The Briar and the Rose! I would say it would be a second place tie between those two songs for me!
God Bless, afanoffiona
