Joe,
What kinds of questions did you have in mind? Do you mean questions about the music the Cottars play or something like that?
God Bless, afanoffiona

Yeah, basically any question concerning the group. For instance, if they will be near such-and-such city soon, or what new songs are they working on. I was going to ask Allister if any PBS specials are in the works. Joe

Joe,
I think it would be a good question to ask what new songs they are working on. I definately want to ask if Rosanne is working on any other compositions for the Cottars to play!
I know this is probably too focused on one person in the group, but if I could, I would ask Alister when he realized that Fiona had the talent she did for singing. It would have to be very young as she made her first recordings very, very young!
God Bless, afanoffiona

Hi afanoffiona,
I've received an e-mail from Allister. Here's the reply to your questions!
question from afanoffiona... [green]"I think it would be a good question to ask what new songs they are working on. I definately want to ask if Rosanne is working on any other compositions for the Cottars to play!"[/green]
reply from Allister... [red]"Ciaran shares in some of the arranging responsibilities for the band, and both he and Roseanne compose some instrumental music. Fiona and Ciaran have only begun to look into song composition within the last year."[/red]
question from afanoffiona... [green]"I know this is probably too focused on one person in the group, but if I could, I would ask Alister when he realized that Fiona had the talent she did for singing. It would have to be very young as she made her first recordings very, very young!"[/green]
reply from Allister... [red]"We noticed Fiona's natural vibrato around age 8. She & Ciaran sang as a duo for a couple of years before forming a band -- you might see them on one edition of The Barra MacNeils Christmas Show on Vision TV each Yuletide.[/red]

Hi Joe, OK I'm game...I have about 15 questions but I'll ask two ;D... I live in the Chicago area, and I have so much enjoyed The Cottars in festivals in Chicago and Milwaukee, and last year in Chicago in concert with The Chieftains, but I would love to see them, by themselves, in concert next year in Chicago or Milwaukee or really anywhere in the Midwest. Are there any plans for The Cottars to appear in concert in the Midwest in 2007, all by themselves? My second question (and this is probably a question Allister can't really answer right now, but I'll ask anyway)...are Claire and Bruce going to be a permanent part of The Cottars in the future? Thanks Joe in advance for asking my questions. Rich

I have a question A few posts ago, we were discussing the Barra MacNeils Christmas show, and on some other thread, I asked if anyone knew the names of the songs that Fiona and Ciaran perform on the show, which no one did. Joe, do you think you could ask Allister what those songs were? Thanks Ginny

Also, I think I speak for everyone when I ask this-just in general, what upcoming projects do they have planned, if any? We've had different convos on here about a third CD, a DVD, music videos....is there anything of the sort being planned? Cheers, and thanks again G-i-n-n-y

Hi everyone...
Allister has kindly responded to the questions that were submitted. Let's begin:
question from mott... [green]"Will The Cottars be performing by themselves in Chicago in the near future?"[/green]
reply from Allister... [red]"The plans for 2007 are still under discussion."[/red]
question from mott... [green]"Are Claire Pettit and Bruce Timmons going to be a permanent part of The Cottars?"[/green]
reply from Allister... [red]"Claire Pettit and Bruce Timmons have joined The Cottars until at least the end of 2006. The new quartet performs all the music in The Cottars’ repertoire, as well as all the new music that Claire & Bruce bring to the band."[/red]
question from Ginny... [green]"What were the songs that Fiona and Ciaran performed on The Barra MacNeils Christmas Show?"[/green]
reply from Allister... [red]"There are two versions of The Barra MacNeils’ Xmas Special aired each December. One of those versions features Ciaran & Fiona Macgillivray --ages 10 & 11, playing: guitar, tin whistle, bodhran -- and that segment is a corker! Ciaran & Fi sing “The Virgin Mary ” and then do “The Wren” with The Barras. They also join The Ennis Sisters for an exciting stepdancing finale. This all happened before The Cottars band was formed."[/red]
question from Ginny... [green]"Is another CD or DVD special in the works?"[/green]
reply from Allister... [red]"Again, still under discussion."[/red]
