Hi Caper23, Thanks so much for this info! It's quite likely then that The Cottars will perform their last concert together on August 20th. How wonderful that you live in Cape Breton. I hope that you and your friends are trying to keep the Celtic traditions alive and strong. I'm so glad that you enjoy the forum. Thanks for being a part of it! Joe

They started their tour here in Victoria BC last night and Roseanne and Jimmy are already no longer part of the band. Claire Pettit and Bruce Timmins have taken over their parts (and are doing a fabulous job for being thrown into the line-up at short notice). Sounds like they plan to keep their current personnel and continue touring and producing CD's.
While Aug. 20th appears to be their last "Summer" tour date, they will definitely be continuing on long past that.

You mean to say that they have already (pretty much) borken up? It sounds that way sense Roseanne and Jimmy are no longer part of the group. The new people are doing good though right?? I just can't believe this...............................Jenna

Yes, they are officially broken up now...but not in the sense that I think everyone once thought. From what they told me, this is NOT the end of "The Cottars", it will just be a new line-up as far as who is in the group. I think Claire will be staying on as the fiddler indefinitely and I'm not sure about Bruce taking Jimmy's place (he is much older than the rest of the group and has played with Various big-name Celtic bands, so he quite proficient at what he does). He will be in the line-up for at least the rest of the summer tour though. I think Roseanne has already moved on to other things and Jimmy is still trying to get his health problems in check. It's sad to see them leave...especially since they did make up the original group, but trust me...the Cottars sound as awesome as always with the new members and their plans are to keep going

I thought "Celtic Attack" had split up as well. Yes, I've heard of all of those bands. In fact, my whole CD rack is filled with mostly Cape Breton Celtic music mixed with some Irish and Scottish bands. Natalie MacMaster is actually performing here on the 10th and is another one of my favourites I have played fiddle with Troy MacGillivray from Antigonish...do you listen to his stuff too Caper?

I've heard of him...he performs with Patricia Murray some, including on her CD "Welcome to Prince Edward Island". He takes the lead on one of the tracks "The PEI Wedding Reel". It's cool that you've performed with him! Cheers, Ginny

I've heard of Patricia Murray, but don't have her CD. Maybe I'll have to pick that one up I have a pic somewhere of Troy and I playing together, I'll have to see if I can dig it up. I adore PEI...it's the only other island I would live on besides this one

Kim, That's great that you've performed with Troy MacGillivray. I wonder if Troy is related to Allister MacGillivray. Who knows, Kim...we may have to start a message board for you and your husband! Cheers, Joe

LOL...I don't know about that Joe, we're just starting to come together as a group and it's still in the early stages. We enjoy playing local ceilidhs and smaller venues, but I don't think we'll ever be in the "big leagues" as they say. We haven't even got a website up yet, but we are hoping to work on that towards the end of the year.
It's funny how many MacGillivray's, Mckenzie's, MacDonald's, MacMaster's, etc. live in Cape Breton and Nova Scotia. I always figure they must all be related somehow, but apparently many of them aren't.

Hey, ohh i have a question. How do you get all this information about the cottars.. its pretty coool:) Hi Caper, We are in constant communication with Fiona and Ciaran's parents, who are Beverly and Allister (he's also the musical director). Kim, our most recent member here, deserves a lot of credit for much of this recent info about Claire and Bruce joining The Cottars. Kim really shed a lot of light on the Cottars' current situation when she met Beverly last week. I e-mail Allister monthly about what is new with the Cottars. Last month I compiled a list of questions from members of this forum and had Allister answer them. That was fun! Also many members contribute so much info here. I can't begin to thank them enough.
