"Rise Again" and Barack Obama

The song "Rise Again", made famous in Cape Breton by Raylene Rankin and later by Aselin Debison, has been voted for inclusion on CBC Radio 2’s “49 songs from north of the 49th parallel” contest.

In early January, Canadians helped to select the 49 songs that best define Canada, for incoming U.S. President Barack Obama.

The final playlist of 49 tracks will be revealed Inauguration Day, January 20th.

Yay! 'Rise Again" is in the Top 49! Raylene Rankin's song was voted in, as well as "Ordinary Day" by Great Big Sea.

Other notable songs in the Top 49 are "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell, "Home" by Michael Bublé, "Northwest Passage" by Stan Rogers, and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot.
