I am interested to know how you discovered The Cottars' music. If I remember correctly, it was May 2005...I was on Amazon.com, looking up artists similar to Aselin Debison, and, after listening to the group's samples, I was hooked! Joe

I saw them perform live with John MacDermott in Oct, 2002 I believe. I bought Made In Cape Breton, listened to it at home a few times, and was hooked Cheers, Ginny

I just followed a link from Hayley Westenra International and listened to them. I liked what I heard, and was hooked!
(that's 3 posts that more or less end with the word hooked!)

I believe it was the summer of 2003; I was at the Milwaukee Irish Fest, which I attend every year. Before I went I had a schedule and decided what groups I wanted to see, as I knew very little about many of them, and I just picked some at random, who had websites and soundbites; The Cottars were one such group; I found the Cottars’ website and their music sounded like something I would enjoy. Then I went to the stage where they would perform; they were tuning up and that’s when I realized they were kids! (I also found out for the first time how “Cottars” was pronounced). When they performed I was awed by what I saw; they were so professional and polished; I loved their songs, especially “The Briar and the Rose” and enjoyed Roseanne’s playing and bouncing all over the stage, and Ciarán’s playing and Fiona’s lovely voice. I wasn’t alone, the crowd gave them a standing ovation when they were done. I next saw them at Chicago’s Celtic festival downtown the next year, and I got a front row seat, and they were wonderful again, so I guess I sort of adopted them, and try to see them wherever they are playing in the Midwest (which I believe I have). Yeah hooked, that’s an appropriate word.

I was going to write about my first encounter with The Cottars but I suddenly realized I had already written about it a few years ago. The tale is told in the new "Members GOT M.I.S.C Talent" . I had written a poem about each of The Cottars and my meeting with them is told in the thread re the poem about Roseanne.
