It's somewhat interesting to me that Savannah GA would host an Irish festival. I would never think that Savannah would be all that interested in Celtic music, but if they are home to dance companies and Harry O'Donoghue then good for them. Wish I was able to go. Edit by Joe...couldn't fix that split link so I just hid it .

Are you kidding? They whoop it up at St. Patick's day. A friend of mine is from Georgia and she told me all about the fun stuff that goes on in Savannah at that time of year. They dye the river green and it is one huge party for like a week. Green everywhere beer everywhere. they go nuts. I had hoped to make it down there this year but I don't have the cash and it isn't the cottars performing. Edit by Joe...hid that problem link to Wikipedia in Mott's quote

Here's an article from SavannahNow.com... savannahnow.com/node/241398Irish tradition was honored Saturday with ceremony and celebration at Tara Feis. The city-sponsored, family-friendly precursor to the St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrated its 16th year at Emmet Park with food, arts and crafts, games and live performances. This year's headlining act was The MacKenzie Project, a Celtic ensemble of musicians and dancers from Ireland and Canada. The group - composed of Roseanne MacKenzie, Ashley MacLeod, Donogh Hennessy and Pauline Scanlon - performed a mix of ancient reels and contemporary songs. Hundreds of people gathered around the main stage to listen, while a hundred more enjoyed corn dogs, funnel cakes and green-and-orange-striped snow cones at dining tables set up in the middle of the festival. Nearby, boys lunged at one another with sabers made from blue balloons, hissing to punctuate each swipe. Irish dancers, fresh from performing on the main stage, exchanged their step shoes for Crocs and wandered around in curly-haired cliques. One woman wearing a T-shirt that read "Irish is as Irish does" turned toward the children's stage, where Sean Driscoll, dressed as a pirate, incited a mini-kiddie mosh pit with his acoustic guitar. Tara Feis first-timers Julie and Frank McHugh were impressed by all the attention the city lavished on the Emerald Isle. "And being from Boston, we're pretty picky," Julie said. "I don't want to be disloyal, but Savannah is doing a bang-up job."

Is it just me, or does the MacKenzie project have new members every time they perform? Cheers, Ginny

Thanks for sharing the review, Joe. I hate funnel cakes, they are nothing but dough and sugar and they just lay in your stomach for days.

I mentioned in my review of their first concert that I thought the band would have interchangeable parts and it seems to be the case. I, too, would be disappointed if Jimmy remained out of the band. The initial hype was that Roseanne made Jimmy the first additon to her "Project". I wonder what happened since I haven't seen Jimmy's name in any concert info yet and if you check the poster on their management forum he's not in the picture.

If the band is going to have interchangable parts, she might as well just promote herself as a solo arrtist (like Natalie MacMaster or April Verch). A band with interchnagable parts would probably be hard to form any sense of chemistry. I agree that it would be nice to see Jimmy playing with her.

Ya thats what I thought, cause she would be awesome by herself, and maybe bring in guests for certain songs

I read a while back that she was planning to release a solo album sometime in 2007 (I think it was this year...or it might have been 2008..I'll have to check on that one). Maybe her original idea of "The MacKenzie Project" didn't work out as planned, and she is going to go solo, but she's kept the name for now. But we're all used to waiting in the dark for news now aren't we? Cheers, Ginny

Hummm. I also heard that Rosie was making a solo album. But that was back when she was touring with John McDermott.
Anyway, Rosie is too good to not have people want to perform with her permenantly. I know I would jump at the oppertunity! Hence, I don't know what Rosie has planned for the future, but she is too good to give up now!
God Bless, afanoffiona

In fairness to Rosie, I do recall that this gig was orignally planned for the Cottars (I assume the original group). It may have been planned as early as '05. Perhaps instead of cancelling altogether, Rosie (maybe with Jimmy) felt she can do the gig anyway. But she had to get some group together to back her up (and replace Jimmy who may have been ill), so that's why these members were different than the others. They may have been substitutes for the other more permanent members of the "Project" who weren't available to do this gig. Just a theory.

That could work, maybe eventully she'll have her own album after things settle down a bit, but why would Rosie and her band be taking over for the cottars, instead of the other 2 who still go by cottars, unless that was when they were thinking that they didnt want to perform anymore...did that make sense? sorry Tia
