Hey guys, I finally found some neat information on the MacKenzie project. The site is here if you want to read more about them www.jproductions.com/roster.htmlJust for a little bit of info, besides Jimmy and Roseanne, the band includes PEI fiddler, stepdancer and pianist Richard Wood, and an Irish singer, Pauline Scanlon. Now, I don't mean to be a pessimist, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed when I read those names. Richard Wood is 28, and Pauline Scanlon is 25. I think we can all agree that part of the Cottars' charm was that they were young. At least when the Cottars replaced Roseanne, they got someone who was around their same age. I thought the MacKenzie's might do the same, instead of bringing in people ten years older than them. But I guess we do have to consider the fact that they are getting older, but still, I had hoped to see some other teens performing with them. I guess we'll just have to wait until someone sees a concert until we judge whether or not it's a good thing having older people in the band. And if they are good performers, we may just have to add boards for them too Anyway, I'll continue searching around to see if I can find some more info or tour dates Cheers, Ginny

At first glance, this group's credentials look very impressive. Of course how they will sound together is another thing, but I will certainly watch for them in my area! Also, I notice they mention Richard Wood touring with the Chieftains (as did the Cottars) earlier this year. I saw the Chieftains (and Cottars) in February, and I do recall a great step-dancer with them. I don't recall if he played fiddle, but I recall the dancing. I wish I could find my program! I'll keep looking, but I bet the guy I saw is the same guy, and he was terrific! Anyway, I guess the MacKenzie Project is serious about having some long-term musical success.

Well I dunno, 28 isn't exactly having one foot in the grave. ;D haha sorry about that...I should have chosen my words more carefully I agree though that their biographies are impressive...just as I said before, I would have liked to see more teens performing with them...more people my own age performing Celtic music. I've heard a lot about Richard Wood, seeing as he's from the same province as me, but I didn't realize he has performed with so many big names, such as the Chieftains. Anyway, I'm really interested in finding out what the singer's voice sounds like. I'll have to try to download some songs of hers. Cheers, Ginny

I never thought being 26 would make me feel so old. :-D While they are a bit older, keep in mind the Cottars have been playing with a middle age man and have been doing pretty well. (Though, I have no clue if he is going to be permanant - if not, he should be, he's good!) Both also seem to be high energy (at least from their bios) which sounds good to me! And I have loved every musician I have ever heard from Prince Edward Island!
Mott - The Chjeftains tour extensively with the Jon and Nathan PiIatzke as well as Cara Butler who all are part of the Canadian band, Quagmyre. Cara and Nathan are award winning steodancers and Jon is a great fiddle player and step dancer. You could have seen them. On the Cheiftains live album that they released last year, they are highlighted.

When The Cottars appeared on "The Chieftains in Canada", I taped it of course, and anyhoo, they were performing with the Chieftains...I couldn't believe how good they are! In fact, I think the best part of the show was the finale when a group of stepdancers came on stage for the final number, with Ciaran, Fiona and Roseanne stepdancing with them on one side, and Jon and Nathan on the other. Soo...what musicians from PEI have you heard of? Chances are I've heard of them too Cheers, Ginny

Well the only name I remember is Barachois. They were awesome. There are others I've seen from PEI at folk fests but their names escape me at the moment - mostly fiddle players.

You've heard of Barachois? I agree- they were probably the best band to ever come out of PEI...I saw their final performance, and it was really good. Did you read the review I posted over the summer about the Chuck and Albert concert? If not, then yes it's true-Chuck and Albert have joined forces, and their show is unreal!
Cheers, Ginny

That's awesome! I will have to check out that review. There is a free international folk fest near where I grew up (and still attend!) called the Lowell Folk Festival and I saw them there back in the late 90's and then caught 2 more shows of theirs until they disbanded. I love their CD's and their shows were so much fun! I was actually listening to their "Encore!" album on the way to work! Barachois, I believe, was my introduction to music from Canada.

www.jproductions.com/mack.htmlLooks like the MacKenzie Project will be manged by JMI, who manages many Canadian/Scottish acts (Beolach, Danu, Archie Fisher, April Verch, Teada, James Keelaghan).

i like Rosie's choices for the new band members. Even if they are older, there talented. I've seen the cottars perform many times and it seems like the new members are just tryong to replace Jimmy and Rosie. The Mackenzie Project seems to be going in a different direction, just because the Richard Wood and Pauline Scanlon have diverse talents wich are different from Ciaran and Fiona's.
I wrote to Pauline Scanlon asking for information on the Mackenzie project. She seems really nice. here is what she wrote:
Hi Elise, I can't tell you anything at the moment... I'm sure things will be all wrapped up and confirmed soon and we'll hear what's happening, all the best Pauline
