Hi all,
We've known that Jimmy MacKenzie has been away for much of the time when he was a part of The Cottars. Some of you may not know that Jimmy has been battling Crohn's disease.
It was announced that Jimmy is making preparations to climb to the summit of Mount Everest. He hopes that this will inspire others who also face the same disease. Jimmy also hopes to raise money for IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax, NS.
Jimmy's words...
Hi, I am Jimmy Mackenzie from the Cottars and my plan is to raise money for the IWK Children’s Hospital as well as for Crohns research. At the age of ten I became involved with the IWK Hospital where I was diagnosed with Crohns disease. For the next three years my treatment entailed tube feedings and regular checkups. Between the ages of fourteen and seventeen, I went through two major operations. During my stay at the IWK, I had seen more than my share of things. The things I speak of are the incredible things that go on inside that hospital. I am indeed grateful for my situation and consider myself lucky. I therefore will remain thankful to the hospital and staff for the second chance they have given me at a healthy life. Through my thankfulness I now want to give back to the cause. My goal is to climb Mount Everest, the tallest place on earth in honor of raising money for Crohns research. More importantly is to send a message to the other kids out there that "Hey I am one of you". I have my ups and downs like anyone else and still do. I want them to all know that nobody lives a constant life. Although you can’t control change, you can control how you react to change. My message is stay up and be positive. If your message is positive, then people will listen.
My heart takes on an extra load as I make my exciting plans to summit Mount Everest. The reason for my climb is in support of the Crohns disease which I am affected with. My dream is to rise above the clouds and summit the Mighty Mount Everest. In doing so I hope that it will inspire all who are affected with this dreaded disease, to rise above the clouds of their sickness and be hopeful that cure is on the way. Through great blessing, medical advancements have given me the gift of life and the return of my health which I aspire to give back to the cause. In this journey that I am undertaking, I ask Mount Everest to spare my life and let my efforts be rewarded with the raising of money for the treatment of Crohns and the blessing of good health. Good luck and stay healthy.
