Hi all, Although the Stan Rogers site doesn't list this yet...JMI productions mentions that Roseanne MacKenzie will perform at this prestigeous folk festival June 29 to July 1. Also, she may be performing solo. The Stan Rogers Folk Festival takes place in Canso, Nova Scotia. www.jproductions.com/news.html#070612rosieJoe

The Stan Rogers fest sounds very cool, I had never heard of it. Wish I could go but it's a little far. Maybe another time, because they have some fine entertainment it looks like. Apparently Rosie won't be a main stage performer, not that she doesn't deserve to be.

Nice. I have never been to this festival but I am a huge fan of the music of Stan Rogers (who sadly died in a plane crash in the 80's) as well as his brother Garnet Rogers.

Hi all,
I was watching TV this afternoon...a show about airline disasters was on.
It so happens that it was the disaster that took the life of Stan Rogers.
The flight left Dallas, Texas, on the evening of June 2, 1983. Halfway through the flight, smoke was seen coming out of the lavatory. Within a few minutes, the entire aircraft was full of smoke. Many electrical systems on the plane began to fail. The pilot was able to land the plane at Cincinnati, Ohio. As passengers were exiting the plane, oxygen from the now-open doors fed the intense heat and smoke. This caused a large flash fire, which killed 23 people.
The program mentioned Stan Rogers and some of his accomplishments.

What I always thought was so sad was that the plane actually landed and so many people still died. I have all of Stan's early albums on vinyl (I inherited a huge record collection which lots of fun!) and he was a great songwriter and could blow anyone away singing a sea shanty!
His brother, Garnet Rogers, has been a solo singer-songwriter for about 20 years now (he played in Stan's band until his death) and he wrote a 10 minute song called "Night Drive" about Stan which is one of the best songs ever...at least in my opinion. Good to see his legacy lives on; nowadays there are so many songwriters and folk acts but back in the 70's and 80's, people like Stan Rogers help bridge the gap between the 60's "folkies" and the resurgance the music has today.
