"Roots to the Future" workshop
"This is one of the special projects being worked on for Celtic Colours this year. The idea is to pair up songwriters with composers of tunes and have them write new songs based on traditional tunes. The artists involved are Steven MacDougall, Colin Grant, Carmel Mikol, Fiona MacGillivray, Ryan J. MacNeil, Rosie MacKenzie, Rachel Davis and Carleton Stone. This exchange of traditional and contemporary tunes and songs will allow for plenty of opportunity to collaborate as the songwriters will write new songs to traditional tunes; the tunemakers will write tunes to the songwriters' original songs incorporating traditional techniques while exploring contemporary composition. The artists have already met and started the collaborative process. It will be very exciting to see what they have come up with at this concert."
