Hurricane Irene made landfall near Morehead City, NC at 7:30 am local time. The storm tracked across the state and is now again over open water. Current forecasts indicate that the hurricane will hug the Maryland and New Jersey coast. it will make a second landfall as a minimum hurricane just east of New York City around mid-day on Sunday. Upon interaction with land, Irene will quickly weaken and become post-tropical before tracking across Maine and northwestern New Brunswick Monday morning. Irene will track into southern Quebec into Newfoundland on Tuesday. Please heed any warnings issued by local, state, or provincial authorities. The Bay of Fundy had a storm surge warning yesterday...I'm hoping it's nice there now while I go there camping for a few days haha. It wasn't so bad here, considering it's been rainy and rather cold all summer (aka the summer that really wasn't), but it was crazy windy here today. Good to see you were ready for the storm Joe ;D
Cheers, Ginny

Hi Ginny,
Hurricane Irene will be a storm to remember! My Sunday morning began with rainwater coming through the chimney. Then at 10 am the power flickered on and off several times. It gave out completely. No lights, heat, hot water, or internet. We cooked on a camping stove. There was minor damage to our trees...I measured a wind gust at 50 mph and nearly 4 1/2 inches of rain. The hurricane's center was 90 miles away at its closest. All of the food in both our refrigerators and freezers had to be thrown out. We were able to receive three gallons of spring water and three bags of ice at a relief station in the supermarket. Finally after 31 hours the power was restored at 5:30pm Monday. Some estimates said between two and four days! It looks like the electric issues zapped our TV in the living room. I'd say the storm cost my family about $750. But I'm very grateful that, just now seeing some horrific images on the TV, to not see flooding or structural damage. Unfortunately five people were killed in northeastern Pennsylvania due to the hurricane.
Enjoy your camping adventure... watch those tides ;D
Cheers, Joe
