Hi all, ProBoards, our forum host, is nearly ready to roll out a brand-new and updated version of all its forums in a month or two. They have given us a "practice" version of this forum. Please note than the practice forum is only temporary and posts made there will be lost. There are lots of new features with the new version. Have a look around, practice a post, try liking a post or create your own avatar. For me, your humble admin, I have tried to replicate the overall look of this forum to the next version. Much of my work to fix text sizing and other issues are still in-process (such as the scrolling table on the front page). Basically any text or line can have its own color. Also the new software will not be all roses, as we will lose the bottom row of smilies, so there will be lots of squares with a red x in our older posts. The log-in process will be also be changed to be more secure. Any ideas or comments welcome! Here is the link to the practice forum... thecottarsforum.freemessageboards.com/

Done! Hope you like it...most everything from the colors to the text sizes had to be carried over. Please go into your profile and ensure your settings/preferences are correct. You can create a custom avatar, "like" a post, bookmark a thread. If you want to make a member notice your post, simply use @username. For me it's Joe. If you mouse-over a member's name you will see his/her @username. The member will get a notification. Some issues... * I see some of the text sizes change upon hovering...I'll see if I can find how to fix that.* My birthdate and age were literally January 1, 0 , age 2013 instead of March 21, 1973, age 40. I've noted that to support.*That smiley drop-down box I'm not too fond of. Maybe I'll see if they have a different plug-in code. *A shout-box is available but I turned it off... Anything out-of-place or any suggestions for colors/text/ etc... do say so.

Hi Ginny! Sometimes I feel 2013 years old! I found out that we change an incorrect birthdate, in the profile area. Next time Eliza Rose Gilner is on, she can correct her birthday. Happy moseying

Hi all,
I see that this new version 5 software, the code that will prevent guests from viewing our profile no longer works.
I've asked Support if a new code might be forthcoming.
But, in version 5, there is an option to hide your profile from guests. I would recommend you implement this.
Here's how it is done...
1. Below the top Cottars banner, click "Profile", then click the grey "Edit Profile" button on the right side.
2. Click the green "Privacy" button. Select 'Members Only'.
Whilst there, you can also adjust other settings regarding your email, birthday, and other viewable items.
Thank you, Joe

Thank you, Joe ProBoards Support has told me of a simple fix, to stop guests from viewing our profiles. Actually it sounds complicated; it entailed me adding some lines of code to the profiles template. Also it seems that, a few hours ago, we broke our record for most users online at once...144! The old record was 65 set in April 2008. I reckon the users are Google search engine Bots crawling the forum looking for info. You'll note that some recent posts made will say "7 minutes ago" or "yesterday at 6:30pm". To see the exact date and time of the post, simply mouse-over any timestamp. Enjo, Joe
