Disheartened to learn of Rita's untimely death. One of Cape Breton's best- loved singers, Rita was a true woman of determination. Overcoming shyness to give us her gift of voice, she will be remembered for her works of charity. Rest in peace. www.cbc.ca/news/arts/story/2013/04/17/rita-macneil-obit.html

I had asked Allister MacGillivray if he has worked with Rita. One could envision the memories in his reply to me. Rita has sung "Sea People" (penned by Allister). She and Allister performed "She's Called Nova Scotia" together. The two families are very good friends. Here is a photo of Allister with Rita...with a member of the Men of the Deeps. Attachments:

EVERY Christmas, without fail, we listen to her Christmas tape "Now the Bells Ring". It's a family favourite, and it really doesn't feel like the holidays until I hear it. My aunt was fortunate enough to actually meet Rita at her Tea Room a few years ago, and said she was a very humble, modest and kind woman. She will definitely be missed around these parts. Between her and Stompin Tom, the Maritimes have certainly lost two of our finest in the past few months
