Joe,
I have noticed that the Cottars' Official Website has been down a while and I can't seem to find much current information elsewhere on the net. Did I miss something? Are the Cottars on hiatus, or even possible disbanding? Luckily, we have you and you have posted articles on Ciaran's acting and Fiona's endeavors. Thanks so much for that. Do you know if Bruce and Claire are still around? I remember that you posted a while back that Claire was contemplating a departure. Could it be that the group has decided to split and go their separate ways - or am I misreading the situation? I certainly hope they continue - or re-unite the old group. Their "shutting-down" would be a big loss to the Celtic music movement. Again, thanks for all your work on the forum.
Garth

Hey Garth et al!
I occasionally still pop by here to check on news but don't usually bother signing in...just happened to see this thread today though and felt like commenting, as I have been wondering the very same thing as of late!
My assumption was that, due to members heading sort of separate directions on solo careers, etc, that they are definitely on an extended hiatus, which I imagine could become permanent if they find success in other ventures. Ciaran seems to be developing an impressive resume in the acting world, and I'm excited to hear Fiona's solo music when that is released (in fact, she's participating in a showcase at this year's ECMAs which I am participating in as a volunteer..I don't know if I'll have the opportunity to hear her at all, but it would be great if it happened!)
The thing is though that even though they had a successful ten or so years as a band, they aren't quite as high profile as other bands from around this area (particularly in recent years as they haven't been touring as much, haven't released a new record in a few years, etc) so they are in a good position to slip under the radar, if you will, and quietly disband if they choose to do so. Yes fans will be left wondering what happened (as we are now!) but again, I think if each embarks on a successful solo career, fans will get the memo and support them, no matter what!
I do very much hope they find their niche and run with it...it's a competitive industry. It seems like everyone and their dog wants to pick up a guitar and sing and make it big..and there's a lot out there. Definitely tough times...though of course, each member of the band is already a seasoned member of the music industry so I know we haven't heard the last of them!
Cheers!

Hi Ginny,
Thanks for the information. Hope you get to hear Fiona at ECMA. Is there any release date for her solo album?

Hi Garth and Ginny! 'Tis good to see you, Ginny I haven't visited The Cottars' site in a week or two..maybe it's a server issue. I'll ask Allister if there will be any solo recordings from Fiona. I'm happy that she will have a performance during ECMW. All my best, Joe

Maybe I'm just jumping the gun here haha...remember Fiona's interview, "The Full Length Mirror" or whatever that was called...I had thought it mentioned she was working on an album, or maybe it was just casual songwriting. That's my only source, I certainly don't know more than anyone else! The funny thing is when I was here yesterday I checked thecottars.ca, and the site was working fine. Today however, it's not loading. Interesting why that would be!

If Fiona needs funding for a new album and does it via Kickstarter let me know! I'll definitely contribute and spread the word.

BTW I recently exchanged a couple of notes with Fiona on Facebook. She only has personal page, not an official musicians page. As an alternative to being friends on FB she understandably sent me to The Cottars page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/thecottars I noticed the cover photo was recently updated so maybe they will be posting something new there in the future.

Hi everyone, I just went on the Official Cottars Forum and noticed that it had changed significantly. There appears to be nothing about the Cottars. I am wondering, Joe, if this is a sign that the Cottars have definitely stopped any music activities as a group. Looking at other sites, I can't seem to find any new news of them. Did Alistair ever get back to you when you contacted him last October? Has anyone else found any news about them?

The Cottars official site "thecottars.ca" domain must have expired. I did mention to Allister just after Christmas if Fiona might be recording songs soon, but he hasn't replied since. From Facebook, Fiona has been in Florida for a few weeks. Back in November she had a wisdom tooth pulled. As far as I know Claire Pettit and the MacGillivrays are still good friends. I do hope Fiona will record a solo CD ... even an EP with a few songs would be great. I'm sure Ciaran would contribute vocally and musically. And hopefully there can be some semblance of The Cottars in the near future.
