I was wondering. Aselin did a Sinead Lohan song, as did the Cottars on their last album, and I, for the life of me, cannot figure out what these lyrics mean!

Hello afanoffiona,

Yeah, Sinead does write some interesting lyrics! "goldness of feeling think of a roman" ... I think it revolves around a disliked queen.

"Out of the Woods" is definitely about a lost love. If she's wondering about her love, it might be better to think of him in her dreams.

Hey Joe,

Ok, Out of the Woods makes sense now. I think it was the odd use of phrases like "out of the question," and "into the picture." Normally, the words "out" and "into" in those phrases are not used spatially!

I'll keep trying to see what I can come up with for "Send me a River."

Hi all,

Well to me, “Send me a River” is about people who are lost in life, do not know the meaning of it all, and need guidance.

In the first part, she sees the treasures that other people have found in life, the joys etc. but no matter how she tries she can’t achieve them.

Second part, pity is felt for those who have wealth and notoriety, as a queen, but are really not happy within despite their wealth; the queen has to pretend it’s all great, but she needs that river too, to find real happiness.

The third part is my favorite, the most meaningful to me. We go through life having terrible things happening to us, like being humiliated. But we need to learn to accept it all, because it’s not others who are hurting us, it’s our own thoughts about it that really cause the pain. We need to learn to laugh at our misfortunes and go on as before.

But it’s all easier said then done. We all know what we want in life, because we see that “ship on the sea”; but what we need is a path, a guide, to take us there.

At least that is how I see the song. She’s a terrific poet, I wonder if she still writes. As an aside, it’s a shame when people with talent like this retire way too soon. I hope she comes back.

Hey Mott,

Well, I guess it is better than what I had before. The interesting thing about many poets who write abstractly is that it can be interpreted in any number of different ways. I almost wonder if that is what she intended.
