Well. I just came back from the Barenaked Ladies concert. I'm still pumped, and I feel the urge to write about it here.
There was a huge turnout. It was the first big concert like that I have ever been to, so at times I found the big crowd a bit overwhelming (for example, people trying to stand in front of you because they came late and they don't want to stand in the back where they should be). Our seats were awesome. We were only about twenty feet or so from the stage.
The opening acts were Two Hours Traffic and The Novaks. Two Hours Traffic is a band from Charlottetown, PEI. They play light pop/rock. They were pretty good. If anyone saw the 2006 ECMA's, you'll remember that Fiona, Ciaran, and Rosie presented The Novaks with the award for New Group of the Year ( I think). Their music was rock. I don't mind rock music, but these guys weren't exactly my cup of tea.
Anyhoo, after these two groups it was finally time for BNL. We (me,CR, and our mother) had to stand the whole show, because there were a whole bunch of people standing in front of us. If we had stayed seated in our lawn chairs, we wouldn't have seen a thing. Anyhoo, they started off with one of my favourite ever BNL songs, "It's All Been Done." I won't name off every single song they performed right now, because I can't remember them all. They played a few new songs that are going to be on their new CD, and they played a lot of songs off their Greatest Hits CD, which I love listening to. The show ended with none other than their biggest hit, "If I Had a Million Dollars". They gave an amazing encore, which ended with one of my new favourite BNL songs "Call and Answer". So basically, the show started and ended with two of my all time favourite BNL songs . Another highlight was Ed Robertson talking about how he attended a party with some of the members of Great Big Sea last night
They are so hilarious too. They wrote a song especially for PEI, which was so funny. Their jokes, banter, and dancing are priceless. The concert was outdoor, and the weather was perfect. They played some songs I had hoped, but never actually thought they would perform. We had an amazing view of the stage. As you can tell, the show was pretty much perfect.
The only unfortunate part of the show was that cameras weren't allowed, so I don't have any pictures to share. A few people snuck cameras in, but I don't tend to be the type to smuggle things like cameras in places they aren't allowed. I don't think any pictures I took would have turned out that well anyway. There were too many heads in front of me ...
Anyhoo, other than that, the show was great, and I can't wait until the day when I get to see them again.
I have now seen my two all time favourite bands live-GBS and BNL.
Lucky Me
Cheers,
Ginny ;D
