Does everyone here celebrate Christmas? Do you have any special plans for this holiday season? What traditions do you have in your family? Hi Katie We used to celebrate Christmas Eve dinner at my grandparents' house; my mother and uncle had a huge shouting match two years ago. So now my parents, my brother and I visit my grandparents after dinner. Midnight Mass is rare these days. Also my church is closed for the winter b/c of the high price of heating oil. So instead we attend another church in town. One of my traditions is to make a yule log. I use the same log every year. There are holes for three candles. I get some evergreen branches to cover the top of the log. Then I take some holly leaves (near the front door of my workplace). Last year I hot-glued a few on the candles. Holly berries are poisonous; I use hawthorn berries instead. These berries are arranged on the top of the evergreens.

Nice picture! Holiday traditions-where do I start? First off all, there's never a shortage of Christmas craft fairs. I think I've been to one every weekend for about the last three weeks. At my church, I'll be helping out with some of the Advent music, and my Sunday School always puts on a Christmas play, which we've just started rehearsals (sp?) for. In the next few weeks, we'll probably be decorating our house, and putting up our Christmas lights. I can't wait, I LOVE Christmas lights! There's also tons of Christmas concerts. Some I'm participating in, such as the one at my school, others are just fun to go to. I had hoped to catch The Rankin Sisters since they are coming here to do a show in a few weeks, but I think they may be sold out...but Rita MacNeil is also coming to do a Christmas show. For as long as I can remember, every Christmas we play Rita's "Now the Bells Ring" Christmas tape, and her songs "Christmas at Home" and "Now the Bells Ring" are two of my favourites. It would be the best Christmas ever if I could finally hear those songs sung live . Christmas Eve, we usually have some family over in the evening for a little get-together. Christmas Day we always go to my grandparent's house for supper, along with a few other relatives. Ever since I started playing piano, I've been roped into playing Christmas music at these family get togethers. After mentioning a few favourite carols of mine, I'd like to know what everyone's favourite songs are. Also, what holiday T.V. or movie specials do you like? Cheers, Ginny

Thanks for sharing I hope the two of you had a very enjoyable Christmas! Thanks for sharing your yule log Joe - I love it. Very pretty. That looks like something for the table all year long its so nice. Sorry I'm late in replying Ginny. I'm sorta of goofy. I still watch all the old Christmas shows like frosty and rudolph. I know, its cheesy and those shows are so old but I think they are so cute. Did either of you see the Nativity Movie that came out over Christmas? I saw the previews and it looks really good.

I love Frosty and Rudolph too. A Christmas Story is also a classic in my family. The nativity movie-is that the one called "The Good Shepherd" or something like that? I saw previews for it too, and I agree, it looks good.
Cheers, Ginny

Hi all, Today we got our first inch of snow! My local news is saying that this is the year without a winter... I didn't see "The Nativity Story" ...my twin brother recorded all of those Frosty/Rudolph shows. It's neat how they do that stop-motion stuff! Some pics (Katie has seen these on her forum) Guess what this is??

^ I know I'm going to guess this all wrong but that looks like homemade paper or else the night sky. I know... I'm goofy. I think the weather man is right Joe... this might be a Winter for many of us that has absolutely no snow. That will be so sad. I was reading that January (according to astrology) is suppose to bring some hectic winter storms. I'm hoping that means a blizzard for us over here ;D Hi Ginny. I know there is a movie out called the "good Shepherd" and it is directed by Robert DeNiro and Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon star in it and its about the CIA but I'm not sure if there is another one with the same title related to the nativity story but there could be one. The Nativity story previews I saw was about the story of Joseph and Mary. It seemed to be about the story leading up to Jesus birth. They may have only been playing it for Christmas, I'm not sure. I just thought of another Christmas movie that I love. "It's a wonderful life." I always want to see that one each year and I missed it this year

Hi Katie You were nearly right...it's a pic of snowflakes in the sky. My camera has a night mode so the exposure is long...you can see the path of the snowflakes! That Nativity Story movie is the one w/ Keisha Castle-Hughes as Mary. Take care Joe

OMG I can't believe I was actually close to getting it right. I was thinking "shooting stars" at first but I knew there was never that many at once. That is a really cool shot you got. Unique. I love it!
