Hi all,
Right now, it's snowing pretty hard outside. I reckon here in northeastern PA we'll get about 20 inches. It's funny b/c overnight, the forecast mentioned the snow changing to sleet and freezing rain (with the temp at 15'F) then back to snow.
I know my work isn't going to be cancelled, so my brother and I may go in for 10 AM instead if 7.
Yeah, Mott. I saw some of the news reports out of Illinois. Tia and Ginny, the snow's a-comin' your way!

unfortunately today is no cold weather fun day. At least not outside. I think we are experiencing a bit of an ice storm. We have a snowmobiler inmy neighborhood and he is out in this have a ball. My job isn't closed which is boggling my mind We tried toget in but it is just too icy and we had to bring a friend home whose car broke down. It isn't even ten oclock and I am exhausted whew I hope everyone is well! AnamCara

Today was worse to drive to work in than yesterday. That's because the snow plows didn't plow everything they needed to; maybe they were tired? But one whole lane on the expressway was unplowed, but some vehicles were driving on it anyway. I also got stuck making a turn onto a road, with all the slush; fortunately nobody else was turning so I was able to wiggle my way out of there. My favorite thing when driving in snow on an expressway is when I get behind someone who won't pass a salt truck in the other lane. So the truck goes slow, and the person in front of me goes slow, and I go slow and get bombarded with salt pellets and get frustrated by the person who's too chicken to pass the truck, as if it were illegal to do.

I was hoping my calculas midterm would be cancelled today, ah well back to studying I go. Tia

Hi all, Phew! What a day. I managed to make it on time for work today. There was 4 inches of mostly sleet on the ground. My dad drove me to work. There were a handful of ppl who didn't call off. But by mid-morning the snow came down very swiftly. I decided to leave work early and go home w/ one of the supervisors who was leaving also. She drove well but with the roads not being plowed she was fighting to keep the car straight. Her wipers kept icing up too. We almost spun into a guard rail. It's still snowing lightly; adding to the 22 inches piled up. I've got pictures of my yard and street. Joe

Wow... I pity whoever's car that is....
We didn't really get any snow, but it's been very windy, and we did get some freezing rain. All the schools were delayed this morning, but we didn't get a cancellation. It was actually rather warm this morning...but not anymore.
Brrrrr..... Ginny

My brother and I did this again last weekend. It was insanely cold to be cooking outdoors. I had put the foil pan w/ the hot charcoal on the sidewalk to melt the ice, but I forgot about it and it froze in place. Even the charcoal was a block of ice. Brrr !

Joe, In your last post there, the quote from two years ago says that the coldest day of your winter was only -9'C. Does it seriously not get any colder than that down there? Honestly, up here that's considered a pretty nice winter day! LOL
Cheers, Ginny

Joe, In your last post there, the quote from two years ago says that the coldest day of your winter was only -9'C. Does it seriously not get any colder than that down there? Honestly, up here that's considered a pretty nice winter day! LOL Hi Ginny, Actually, that -9`C was the high temp for that day. Wow...my current temp is -9 as I write this, but a few weeks ago, we had a low of -24`C. It gets that cold about once every five years. I'd say a normal temp. range for January would be -2 to -15. Forest City's elevation is about 490m (1620') in elevation above the Lackawanna Valley. So we are typically three to five degrees colder than say, Scranton, at 250m. Is there a lot of snow on the ground up there, Ginny. We have about 36 cm...the bottom 7 being ice. Stay warm, and best wishes to ya! Joe
