Hi all, A winter tradition of my brother and me is to cook something on our backyard fireplace on the coldest weekend of the year. Sunday was a very good day for it, as the temperature hovered near the 15'F (-9'C) degree mark. We made soup...chicken broth with noodles and carrots, followed by hot dogs. I also went cross-country skiing down my yard. The snow was too cold and dry to even ski. Here are some pics...

Hey Joe! That looks like fun! I remember going on a sled party when I was in High School, and having food [though, not cooked outside]. We have been having cold weather up in Wisconsin as well. last weekend, it didn't get above 0'F [-18'C], and sunday night/monday morning it got down to -13'F [-25'C]. Needless to say, we were all rejoicing on Wendsday when the high was finally above zero! One of my classmates came in on monday morning [the morning it was -13'F], and said, "It's freezing out there!" My teacher then replied, "No, it is at least fourty degrees beyond freezing!" Anyway, I'll bet Ginny has some cold weather up on PEI. When I went on my trip there I had one lady tell me that it can get down to -30'C [-22'F] in the winter!!!!!!!!! God Bless, afanoffiona

Hi all,
Yeah, the midwest has really been in the deep freeze. I hoped that here in PA it would get above freezing. Nope. Our temperatures have stayed below freezing for eight days straight.
Did you see on the news about the lake-effect in upstate NY? Some spots there had over 130" of snow in a week.
Here's some cold weather fun...this works best when it's colder than zero degrees or below -15'C. Get a coffee can and fill it w/ hot water. If you use boiling water make sure you use oven mitts. Take the coffee can outside and throw the water high into the air. The hot water will instantly evaporate and vaporize into a huge steam cloud.
Keep warm, Joe

Joe, thats a very cool tradtition that you have, I did something like that about 6 years ago, we went skating and then had a bonfire with hotdogs adn marshmellows.

That looks like fun Joe!
Last week and the week before that it was too cold to go outside. Temperatures got to -27F (about -32C) without the windchill DURING THE DAY. Oh what fun! I rejoiced and almost wore a down vest with a sweater, scarf and mittens when the temperature reached 26F yesterday. Usually during the winter my neighborhood has games of hockey on the various ponds in our neighborhood. It's like a tournament and teams must move from pond to pond depending on which team they're playing. It's great fun! We also have a neighborhood sledding fest where competitions are staged.
My sister is a downhill ski racer so she is often outside practicing, and she's got practices quite often, and races nearly every weekend. That's her winter sport! Mine used to be skiing too before I took up dance, and now I'm teaching myself to do lots of figure skating tricks. Oh what fun!
But if it gets to cold we like to stay in our houses all bundled up!

It's been -30C here every day for a month. Or at least thats what it feels like. I'm pretty used to it by now, but trust me, it wasn't fun wearing a skirt outside in that temperature (you gotta love it when it's laundry day in this weather ) That looks like a fun tradition Joe! We used to go out to the Green Gables golf course a lot in the winter-they have great hills for sledding, and awesome cross country ski trails. We haven't been there yet this winter because it's been freezing cold, but it's always a lot of fun, so hopefully we will sometime. Cheers, Ginny

Hey, faerie!
It is the same for negative numbers, it is just that you have to remember that, when you add numbers to a negative integer, it gets closer to zero, not farther away. For instance, -34+14=-20.
Other than that, just multiply the same way [making sure that if you are multiplying a negative number with a positive number, the result is also negative], and it should work out.

Hey Ginny,
Ouuuuuuch, ya, I can imagine wearing a skirt in that kind of weather would be sorta like wearing shorts in that kind of weather. Not fun.
Now THAT sounds like fun. The area up there by Green Gables is one of the most beautiful areas of the Island.

Hi all, Looks like those of us who live in the northeast US are in for a winter storm. Hopefully the snow will start after I get home on Tuesday. Many of the weather reports are forecasting over a foot of snow (>300 cm). So if I'm not at the computer, I'll be out shovelling! Joe

I have been hoping all winter for snow here on Long Island and so far nothing. I am a huge snow person, love love love it. I of course am the only person I know who loves it. I still have that little kid in me who can't get enough of it. We have had some weird weather here this year. We spent a good deal of December and January at 60 degrees ugh. It has been anywhere between 30 (which feels warm to me at the moment) and 10 degrees during the past few weeks, but compared to some of your temperatures I have nothing to complain about. Maybe I should move more north or even Canada if I want cold and snow. lol I am such a weird one I don't know I guess I need four proper seasons and not these weirdo half ass ones. Oh well what can you do. lol PS I do hope the snow happens after you get home too. It is no fun to have to deal with weather when heading home.

We're apparantely supposed to get a storm tomorrow night and Thursday. Strangely enough, my grad class was supposed to go tubing on Thursday, but we didn't think there would be enough snow. Maybe now there will be.
Cheers, Ginny

We had a bunch of snow today, 8 inches or so, depending on who you believe. Gee what fun, especially the driving. Now it will get very cold and windy. More fun.
