Last night, and tonight I watched the movie "The Shipping News". I first heard of it a few years ago on a GBS fansite I think it was because Great Big Sea has four songs featured in the movie. Last year, I did a novel study on the book in my English class. Now finally I got to watch it. It's a really great movie. It was filmed in Newfoundland, so you can see all the beautiful scenery. Also, if you like GBS, the songs featured (in order) are Billy Peddle, Goin Up, The Jolly Butcher and Bad as I Am. I would highly recommend the book and movie to anyone!

I think I started that book a while ago, and saw a part of the movie, because someone used it for a presntation. I will have to go and read it again, I know its in my house somewhere  Tia |

Hey Ginny,
Thanks SO much for sharing this. I've looked up the movie of The Shipping News. As well as having songs from GBS, the movie has several great actors. Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, and Dame Judi Dench are all cast in the film.
The author of the book is E. Annie Proulx. The novel won both the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and the National Book Award in 1994.

I love this book! I picked up about four months ago at a library book sale and it is a great read. Annie Proulx is a great writer . She has a series of great books of short stories about the hard life in Montana where she lives. One of the stories was the inspiration for the movie "Brokeback Mountain" which came out last year.
