I saw another great GBS show last night! I am getting spoiled! This was something like theyr 25th show in 10 years here in the Boston area. In such a short peroid of time, they have gone from playing opening act at small clubs and pubs to the Orpheum Theatre, which is the most famous and biggest (besides Symphony Hall) venues we have.
The show was great. A few new tunes, a few ones I had never heard live before and many of the faves. For Ginny so she can live vicariously, from memory here is what they played:
Billy Peddle
Process Man
When I'm Up
Jack Hinks
new song (Walk on the Moon might be the title)
Night that Paddy Murphy Died
Boat like Gideon Brown
Sea of No Cares
Concerning Charlie Horse
Scolding Wife
Boston and St John's
Captain Kidd
The Old Black Rum
-intermission-
Ordinary Day
new song
Shines Right Through Me
I'm a Rover
When I am King
Helmethead
I Fought the Law/500 Miles/Bohemian Rhapsody/Run Run Runaway
Feel It Turn
Consequence Free
Mari-Mac
Lukey's Boat
-encore 1-
River Driver
Excursion Around the Bay
Fortune Set
-encore 2-
new one, probably called Straight to Hell
Old Brown's Daughter
Highlights:
They played 3 new songs all sung by Alan. "Walk on the Moon" was a nice love song with a pretty violin part by Bob. The second one sounded to be about being muscians on the road and was more upbeat. "Straight to Hell" was electric and I rather my GBS acoustic but it wasn't bad. They said that they will be starting to record a new album when this tour ends.
"Process Man" was awesome and a huge surprise that they played it. A great showcase of their voices. I was happy to have "Old Black Rum" back which I hadn't heard live in a few years. The 80's sing-a-long was hilarious! And it was great to hear "Feel It Turn" for the first time - I love how they sing the harmony. "Old Brown's Daughter" was the perfect ending once again....the crows was loud and we probably woulda made them come back all night if we could!
Okay 4 hours of sleep and now I have to work.
