Allister MacGillivray sent me a concert review via e-mail. I've chosen the most revelent parts. A link to the full review will follow.

As usual, leader Paddy Maloney was front and centre, switching off on tin whistle and uilleann pipes. Kevin Conneff sang and played drums, while new(ish) Chieftain Triona Marshall replaced the late Derek Bell on Celtic harp. Rounding out the group were three members of Cape Breton's The Cottars: singer-flutist Fiona MacGillivray, guitarist Bruce Timmins and pianist Ciarán MacGillivray.

The Chieftains' appeal is rooted in their ability to keep traditional Celtic music simple and pared down to its essence. This was apparent with Conneff's lovely a cappella rendition of Paddy Green's Shamrock Shore. The ballad, the poignant story of an Irishman immigrating to America, benefited from the singer's unadorned, heartfelt interpretation. Elsewhere, MacGillivray...also singing lead on several tunes...impressed with her affecting, girlish voice.

The Chieftains' concert spanned their career. They offered several selections from their album Long Black Veil. Also performed was a selection from the Barry Lyndon soundtrack, the recording that propelled the Chieftains to international fame in the mid-'70's.
