The birth of this Forum prompted me to take a look around online and I found a photograph of the Cottars that I haven't seen before. It appears to be a relatively early one. (?) Photo: www.plankton.co.jp/cottars/Roger

Hi Roger, Thanks for the pic! It's quite similar to the cover of their first CD's Japan release...

Here's a nice bunch of photos of Ciarán and Fiona trying out new bodhrans. From Del's Drums website. Del designs custom bodhrans and drums. My apologies - Del's Drums no longer has the photos

Joe,
Those pictures of the Cottars trying the Bodhran's are really neat. It is interesting to see the Cottars in their "everyday life." I always say that sometimes we forget that even the people we look up to are people like us with lives just like us.
These are all great pictures. The Cottars always seem to have a great look!

I always say that sometimes we forget that even the people we look up to are people like us with lives just like us. I had the good fortune of staying at the same hotel as them when I saw them last August. Even shared the elevator with Ciaran! I must say that if I didn't know them, they looked very much like two families on vacation. The parents are wonderful too. Being a good fan, I didn't bother them on their "down time". Take care, Joe

Joe,
I probably wouldn't be able to speak if I saw Ciaran in the same elevator with me. That is good though that you did not bother them on their down time.
I have only met Ciaran. I made the trip down to Columbus and Dublin, Ohio last year to hear the Cottars at the Dublin Irish Festival. They had an autograph session the last day they were there. I don't know whether Jimmy and Rosanne were just really tired [the average temperature during those days was like 95 degrees, and after they sang "I Know Who is Sick" Jimmy said, "Hey Fiona, I know who's going to be sick if we don't cool down."], or whether Jimmy and Rosanne were just really shy, but Ciaran and Fiona were mingling and talking with the people as passed by for autographs and Rosanne and Jimmy were very quiet and reserved. I talked to Ciarian for a few minutes, and then had to move on because there were others waiting for autographs.
In case everyone is wondering, no, I did not get to meet Fiona. To tell you the truth I had mixed feelings about that. You see, I have studied in the same studio class with child prodigies, and they had all been a pain in the neck. Most of them were quite the little snobs. I was really hoping and praying that Fiona was not like that. It was funny, because when I went to get her autograph, Fiona was talking to a kid in a weelchair who I think was autistic. Apparently, he had enjoyed her singing every bit as much as I did. Fiona was sitting there talking to this young boy, and after she had talked to him for a while and signed all of his stuff she gave him a big hug. That in and of itself almost brought me to tears. I was so impressed that she was extremely popular, and yet she took time out of her schedule to be with this kid and talk to him. So, my turn in the line comes up right when she is talking to this kid. I didn't stay there long. I just told her it was beautiful, and left.
I mean, while I wanted to meet Fiona, I can honestly say that what she did for this boy was amazing, and it was hard to say that meeting her would have made me respect her as much as I do now.

That's a great story from the Dublin Irish Fest. The Cottars are just as wonderful offstage as well as onstage. I was really touched by Fiona's kindness toward the young boy.

Hey Joe!
Yah, that was absolutely amazing of Fiona. We all had a great time at the festival. We have alot of interesting stories from that festival; everyone else in the place being drunk and crazy Saturday night, and Rosanne knocking over a water bottle while she was playing, and flooding the back of the stage. It was a great time over all.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop in to say hello again. School has been crazy this semester. I have five classes on Monday, Wendsday and Friday, and 16 credit hours overall. I will try to drop in more often now that I am more settled. I have just had constant work for the last three months. I don't know how many of you guys have a MySpace account, but I found out that the Cottars have a MySpace account. It is here: www.myspace.com/cottarsIf any of you guys are brave, you could ask them to add you as a friend. Anyway, I'll see you guys later! God Bless, afanoffiona
