This ties in with the thread about the Cottars breakup, but I thought I'd start a new one anyway.
We all know that Forerunner is an amazing CD. And, the ECMA's are coming up very soon. I don't know the nominees yet, but we all know that Forerunner is good enough to be nominated for "Group Roots/Tradtional Recording of the Year" (probably that category). I was wondering recently...what if they won...who would accept the award? It wouldn't reallly be right for Bruce and Claire to accept it with Ciaran and Fiona, since they don't perform on any of the tracks. I'm sure the MacGillivrays would, since they still perform as The Cottars, but I wonder if the MacKenzie's would be there to accept it as well, seeing as the award would be half-theirs. Or even if they don't, I wonder if Ciaran and Fiona would mention them at all then? What do you guys think?
Cheers, Ginny

Don't know Ginny. I agree that it wouldn't feel right for Bruce and Claire to be there...However, that would all depend upon how violent the breakup was. The thing that would make me thing that they wouldn't be there is that Alister pretty much said we can never expect them to play together again. Reading between the lines, that tells me that there were personal issues that just could not be resolved. It would all depend on how many bad feelings exist between the two of them. Anyway, I hope that Ciarian and Fiona will mention Rosie and Jimmy sometime in the midst of their performances and at least wish them the best. Doesn't seem to be forthcoming, tho. God Bless, afanoffiona

Hi all, Unfortunately, The Cottars were not nominated for an ECMA award this year. www.ecma.ca/splash.asp I agree with afan and Ginny; that if they were nominated Rosie and Jimmy should be up on-stage with the MacG's. Great topic, Ginny! Joe

Interesting question. I don't know how the awards work, but I assume if the Cottars won an award for "Forerunner", it would be 4 separate statuettes that would be handed out. I'm sure it has happened in the past, where a group won a Grammy or other music award for an album, after they had split up. I am sure the 4 original Cottar members would all show up for the honor, all acceot their awards, be gracious to one another, and then afterwards go their separate ways. If Rosie and Jimmy skipped the show, I am sure Ciaran and Fiona would mention them and thank them for their contribution. Otherwise they would look like total jerks.

Too bad that they weren't nominated...maybe the fact that they are no longer a band was a factor. Mott-from what I've seen from other years, it's just one award handed out. But I may be wrong. They usually only show one statuette being awarded, but maybe every member of a band does get one.

It is to bad that they werent nominated, but if they were I would hope that they would come together one last time, just to accept it, because they all contrbuted to that cd. Or even if they didnt, at least mention them, but i dont think that they could go up with claire and bruce, because that would be weird.

Ya, too bad they weren't nominated.
I still don't know. I mean, it is rather sad to see two brothers and sisters who worked together for so long, and were so popular together disband. It is sad to see us having to discuss whether or not they would go and be on stage with one another, even just to accept an award. As I said, it seems like the only thing to do is to support both groups, and hope that someday they will get back together...even though Alister said to expect otherwise.
BTW, as a side note...Joe mentioned earlier that Bruce may only be temporary. Is he for sure going to be touring with the Cottars permenantly now?
God Bless, afanoffiona

Hi afanoffiona, It appears that Bruce will be touring with the Cottars. Allister's e-mail from November... "There’s a new management and booking team being built around our new quartet, which is an absolutely STUNNING band (now incorporating a third lead vocalist, 4-part harmony, and the addition of Irish bouzouki, viola, and lap steel). Besides performing all the best of The Cottars’ early material, Ciaran & Fiona and their new fellow bandmates have developed some very edgy arrangements of songs from the CD “Forerunner” -- such as Tom Waits’ “Hold On” and “Georgia Lee”. With the signing of Bruce Timmons and Claire Pettit, the group can now handle much more challenging music, as well as a wider scope of progressive folk material. We just can’t wait for North America to see & hear this awesome lineup! Early in the New Year, there’ll be something official announced about the big plans which are now still under wraps."

Hi Tia I also thought that the breakup was due to not wanting to tour. Or that they wanted to pursue other career options. But soon after, they were off to California! Whoever is managing The Cottars now HAS TO inform fans of what 2007 has in store for the group. This lack of news makes me so frustrated. Keep smiling Captain Joe

Hey Joe, So, I assume you haven't heard anything about 2007 either? It is so frustrating. I want to order my tickets to go see them, but I am waiting for confirmation of the concert date. I guess I will just have to be patient God Bless, afanoffiona

Actually, I thought I read that Rosie and Jimmy didn't want to tour, because of Jimmy's health. Then again, they are with another group altogether, and I assume will tour.
See, that's one reason they all need to be more communicative with us about the breakup. Obviously the reason wasn't they didn't want to tour (unless they didn't want to tour with each other).

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but between this thread and the other Cottars breakup one, I think we've determined the fact that we DON'T KNOW why they broke up. I think everyone's getting really confused now, so maybe we should just try to move past this confused state, and just wait until we hear an official statement from Allister or whoever else is managing tour dates, etc. For anyone who is interested, I'd suggest checking in on www.jproductions.comThat is the group that is responsible for their bookings (and I believe The MacKenzie Project as well) Even if The Cottars sites aren't being updated, this site is always accurate with info, so I'd suggest it as far as news and tour dates go. Cheers, Ginny

Ginny, I checked out that site and they don't seem to have the Cottars under their list of clients. They do have The MacKenzie Project.
