Hey Ginny!
Ya, the flu has been going around Wisconsin also. I went to get some medicine to calm my stomach from the drug store, and the lady at the counter said she sold four of those in two days.

Hi afanoffiona,
Thanks for sharing this. Is Akkadian read left to right?
I've been looking at some Egyptian hieroglyphic info. I learned that it could be read any way (even bottom to top) by looking at the way the hieroglyphs are facing.
Cheers, Joe

Hey Joe!
Ya, Akkadian is read left to right. However, it is not like English. In Akkadian, there are more letters than there are sounds. Therefore each one of those letters, or, "signs" as they are often called represent either a vowel, a consonant-vowel combination, a vowel-consonant combination, a consonant-vowel-consonant combination, an entire word [called a logogram], or a determinative. A determinative is a sign which indicates the class to which the word that comes after it belongs. The only determinative I know is "isum" which is placed before items made out of wood. In other words, if you wanted to say that a chair [kussu] was made out of wood, you would put the determinative "isum" and then write "kussu."
As far as heirogliphics, I have wanted to learn them as well. I started to learn them, but just didn't have the time to continue. You are correct that they can be read in either way. I will see what I can find. The grammar I had was really good, so, maybe I can find out if that still exists.

Hey Everyone! I found some neat stuff. I know there are some people who don't know what Akkadian is, so, here is a sample of Akkadian text: Akkadian was written by carving the letters out of clay tablets. Here are some samples of Akkadian writing in clay: God Bless, afanoffiona I probable am wrong on this but to me akkadian looks alittle like ogham the original written language of the celts. I speak of the lines in the different directions. what do you think afanoffiona?

Hey Elizarose! Well, the appearance is similar, but there are differences. Ogham, for instance, has twenty letters, and all of these letters produce individual sounds. Perhaps there are a few dipthongs, and maybe slender, broad, and aspherated consonants. However, as I mentioned, Akkadian has 23 sounds, but over a thousand letters. Sometimes a letter can be used for an entire word , and sometimes letters can even be used to determine the character of a noun [called a "determiative." See what I wrote to Joe, above]. There are letters that represent anywhere from one sound, to three sounds. Hence, while the appearance is similar, the function is different.

Hey Everyone! I had something awesome happen to me today! I always enjoy this time of year because, when you get home from all of the rehersals and lectures, you get to sit down, and do your homework while listening to a baseball game on the radio [well, actually, they broadcast the games through the internet now, so you can listen to them online]. My favorite team, the Cleveland Indians, had taken the first series from their arch rival the Chicago White Sox. Anyway, they went back to Cleveland to play against the Seattle Mariners, and all four games got snowed out. They tried to get the first game in, but they called it with Cleveland only one strike away from making it an official game in their favor . However, they had so much snow fall the last three days that they were unable to get any of the games in. There was also more snow in the forecast for this week, and they needed time to clear off the field. Hence, they had to do something or the next series with the Los Angeles Angels would be snowed out as well. The Indians asked if they could use another stadium with a retractable roof. Anyone care to guess who they asked? Yup, Miller Park here in Milwaukee only about a 15-20 minute drive from me! The best part is that, because there aren't that many Indians fans here in Milwaukee, and so the tickets are going for $10.00 a piece! So, in other words, tomorrow I will be doing my homework, not listening to the game on the radio, but actually watching it live! I feel so lucky! Just have to bundle up, though. It is going to be around 32 degrees tomorrow night. God Bless, afanoffiona

I went to Miller Park a couple of years ago for an exhibition game the Brewers played against the White Sox. It's a wonderful stadium, I really liked it there, had a great seat right behind the plate for like $20 I think. I should go to the stadium more often, since it is only 1 1/2 hours away, except I'm not an NL fan. I love Milwaukee it has nice festivals along the lake that always feature great music food and beer. ;D

Hi afan,
Yeah, I saw on the news that the Indians will play at Milwaukee. Hope you kept warm during the game !
On Easter morning, about three inches of snow was on the ground. And Thursday, another five inches is forecast.
I feel a cold coming on...so I've taken some meds.
Come on Summer !

Hey Everyone!
Wow, did I have fun. I sat next to this elderly couple who were really into baseball, and they really enjoyed the game. There was this guy that sat in front of me who said he has been watching the Cubs games for like 26 years. He had taken his sons to the game. I also sat next to another Indians fan which was great.
I accidentally hit something in the road on the way there, though. It felt like hitting a tree or something. The car was running fine, but it was rough. Turns out that, after the baseball game, I found that my one wheel was missing a hub cap. So, when I got back to the dorm, I went out walking around, and ended up finding the hub cap on the edge of the road.
Anyway, the game was really good. Cleveland was ahead 7-3 going into the eighth inning, and our bullpen gave up a bases loaded single to make it 7-5. We managed to get out of it, but our bullpen had more trouble in the ninth. Our closer got two outs with a runner on first, and hence, allowed the guy to go to second on indifference. However, two pitches later, he gave up a single to make it 7-6. I am thinking, "fly ball out, ground ball out, strike out, any kind of out!" Then, of all things, the guy at first takes off to try to steal second and he is thrown out by our catcher.
Also, Casey Blake, our first baseman hit a homerun, as well as our backup catcher Kelly Shoppach. Our mascot, Slider, slid down Bernie the Brewer's slide each time. Then, Bernie the Brewer went up and gave Slider some pointers.
I had great seats too. I was about even with the place where the infield dirt and outfield grass meet, on the third base side, in the lower level, only five rows back from the field. I found out very quickly that you cannot do homework down there, because you have to be heads up for line drives that come your way, and wow can these guys throw hard, and hit hard!
Anyway, it was a great night. I only hope I can get caught up with this work now!
God Bless, afanoffiona

Then again, our closer (Jenks) blew the game yesterday, with 2 outs in the 9th and 2 strikes, he gave up a hit then another and the Sox lost. At least the game was on at midnight so I didn't have to watch. Glad you enjoyed the game, and got to chat with some fans.

I remember when I saw the Indians play at Jacob's field. There were some unclaimed seats at the bottom section, so I had a good view. Originaly I had tickets for upper reserve, but I have acrophobia, and didn't realise it would be up so high. The couple from church that I bought the tickets from said that they were better seating than last time they were there. I'd hate to see the seats they had then, if these ones were better. But I digress. Anyway, the Indians lost, but that was alright because my sister and I were rooting for the visiting team, the Toronto Blue Jays. I think that we were the only fans there. The funny thing was that my dad and I found seats down below before my mother and sister did. And when the Cleveland Indians were announced, while I politely clapped, Amy (my sister) booed. I could here her clear down where I was seated. It was such a bad game for the hometeam that the beer vender told his customers, "I'm not selling beer today. I'm selling anestetic." I only time that the people around me clapped was when the police removed a wino, who was wasted at the end of the row, and so he blocked things. That was the most interesting part of the game. The police man tried shaking him awake, at first. But in the end he had to lift the wino's arm and hit the guy in the head with his own hand. LOL I myself think that the reason the Indians lost was bad coaching. They kept on re-playing the same players over and over again. they didn't even put Kenny Loften in until the last part of the game. And by then it was too late. But I'm not complaining. I had good seats plus Toronto won. Go Blue Jays. ;D

My local AAA minor-league baseball team in Scranton is now affiliated with the Yankees (used to be with the Phillies).
So now the field is natural grass instead of astroturf. Also the bleacher seats are gone, replaced with regular seats.
